West 32nd Movie Review

Last night I attended the West 32nd Street movie premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. A friend of mine invited Hummer and me to come see the movie and attend the afterparty. I dressed like I was going to see a movie, but many in the theater dressed in formal or party attire. It was cool seeing the director, Grace Park, John Cho and other cast members at the screening. Apparently it was the first time the cast members were seeing the movie in its entirety.

The movie was funnier than expected, though it's classified as more of a thriller/drama. I was pretty impressed by the direction and the writing of the film: Michael Kang (the director) opened up the movie using Martin Scorsese's famous one-take steadicam technique through a room salon on West 32nd St. The writing weaved in a handful of insights into Korean-American life which many in the audience could relate to.

I went home afterwards and got a txt message to join my friend at the after party. I hailed a taxi and went to Maru which is located where else but West 32nd St. On the 4th floor I was introduced to pretty much everyone related to the movie except Grace Park because I left by the time she arrived. Btw, she is beautiful. I did get to meet John Cho. He and I chatted for a slight bit but there were a gaggle of girls trying to meet him in the periphary. I'll say this about John Cho: he's a real nice guy and was unpretentious when we chatted.
