Most of my day was spent at an awards ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria. As usual, I was probably one of the youngest looking people there. Inherent with a hall of fame ceremony are people with distinguished but sunset careers, which means lots of older peers. I do feel a bit out of place because I don't know to many people and I probably look like someone's admin due to my youthful look, but who cares. I was there to honor someone. I've gone to a handful of these award luncheons over the last few months, and they're all very similar. For example, there are really 4 major venues in NYC and the award ceremonies rotate through them: Waldorf Astora, Hilton, Cipriani and the Marriott Marquis. I know where all the restrooms are located; at least the ones that have the least traffic. Everyone has a video montage of the honoree and each recipient thanks their family, their peers and are grateful to the industry that has bestowed the honor on them. I would like to hear someone say, "I'm the king of the world. I came, I saw and conquered. Who's the man!?" This would never happen but the best speeches are people with pithy comments and know what brevity means.
