The Eagle's roller coaster of a ride season came to an end last night against the New Orleans Saints. I can't accept losing to another team, but the only exception I can make this year and this year only is to New Orleans. That city was devastated last year to Katrina and I know it's only football, but whatever device can bring attention to the plight of a city is worth it. This season had many unexpected turns but I take a lot of positives from it. Prior to the season, Hummer was bearish on the Eagles because he felt that the other NFC East foes had closed gap significantly. I beg to differ on the significant part. Results are what counts and this is my retrospective on the season that could've been. The Eagles finished 10-6 for the season, including a 5-1 NFC East romp. Interestingly, they were picked last by many football pundits prior to the start of the season. Sure the Iggs were 6-10 last year but that was an aberration if you consider their history. They were decimated with injuries and they had a lousy backup QB. This year they were relatively healthy except the big loss of McNabb. However, the most overlooked and underrated coach in the NFC, Andy Reid, did what he does best and that is win. He took Jeff Garcia's water pistol arm and took them 3 points shy of making the NFC Championship game. I think the major takeaway from this season are these:
- Andy Reid can coach
- The Eagles will be the beat of the NFC East next year
- Giants are overrated and will continue to bicker with Coughlin; Skins can't buy a championship and they are far off; Romo was overhyped and unfocused and they've got more issues then they think going into next year
- If the Igges improve their defense to pre-Super Bowl days, then they will be the beast of the NFC
Till next year! Fly Eagles Fly!
