According to Wikipedia, six degrees of separation is the “hypothesis that anyone on Earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances with no more than five intermediaries.” If you’re Korean, this theory is dramatically reduced to two degrees. I will use two Korean contemporaries who have recently emerged into the public eye, Yul Kwon and Doug Kim, to prove my point.

Yul will be seen in the latest but controversial Survivor. I’ve worked with Yul briefly, but I’m also connected to him through 3 other friends who went to school with him, worked with him or lived with him.

Doug Kim is the 7th place finisher at the final table of this month’s World Series of Poker, which will be seen on ESPN starting in September. Since I’m in my thirties, I don’t really hang out with recent college grads, but I am connected by a friend who grew up with him in the NY suburbs and mentored him in North Carolina.

More impotantly, the reason I blogged about this is because I’m trying to figure out how I’m connected to Jarah Mariano and figure out how I can meet her.
