Last night was guys night out. It started out with an early dinner at Del Frisco's for some steaks. I had a bone in filet which was outstanding. If you ever drop by, get the lemon cake which is not on the menu. Afterwards, we headed to MSG in a stretch limo. We arrived to early and was forced to watch the undercards. MSG was over half empty for the secondary fights. I've been to another boxing bout and it's a scary crowd. Lots of unsavory characters. I thought sitting in the 700 level of Giant's stadium wearing an Eagles jersey was scary. The people who attend boxing matches are scarier and they will kick your ass, and not just try to intimidate you. Most of the time we just drank beers and watched the entrance of ladies and boxing celebs. We were fortunate to be sitting by the VIP entrance. We saw Rampage Jackson of the UFC -- the guy who kicked Chuck Liddell's ass in the first round. There were a parade of other boxers: Felix 'Tito' Trinidad Jr., Winky Wright (who beat Sugar Shane 2x), and Roy Jones Jr. They all walked through the crowds which was rather interesting. These guys love soaking in the adoration of the crowds. You would never see that with any other athlete: walking around along the aisles. They all stopped and posed for pictures with many of the fans. There was also a lot of fur wearing, which I guess is typical for boxing matches. Oh yeah, Shaq showed up during the 2nd round of the main event and you could see him from a mile away. He sat in the 6th or 7th row. I hate to be the person sitting behind him.
So the fight was awesome. Cotto definitely won out but Sugar Shane put up a great fight. He definitely won the 2nd half of it but Cotto landed more quality punches and kept countering every time Sugar Shane charged. The 10th round was by far the most exciting and a round that Sugar Shane won. Everyone stood up on their feets as Sugar just pressed Cotto. I found myself swinging punches while watching the 10th round.
It was one helluva night. Tomorrow I'm heading to Santa Monica, CA for some week long meetings. They all start at 4pm and end with dinners for 3 consecutive evenings.
I'm actually looking forward to getting out of NY and chillin' in La La land.
