This may be the last time I'm in Vegas this year. Then again, 10 days ago I had no intention of going back to Vegas and I just got back a couple hours ago from Sin City. This trip was to help Darko get away from some "stuff" going on back in NYC. I'm not in liberty to say but you feel bad when your friends are down and out. So this edition of Vegas was both to celebrate Darko's bday and get away from the "stuff" weekend. We celebrated his bday in Vegas the same exact weekend last year.
I'm so tired typing in this entry because we didn't get much sleep. As usual, we pimped it out by staying in a 3 bed suite on the top floor at the Four Seasons this time, which is located on the top floors of Mandalay Bay -- with a separate entrance. This makes it 14 different hotels I've stayed at in Vegas. I don't know why I come back so many times. I don't enjoy it anymore, except for the moments when I'm winning at the tables; which is very few. I will admit that it's always exciting upon arriving in Terminal D at McCarren Airport in Vegas. I know the route to the strip like I know how to get home from work. Terminal D is where JetBlue is located and when you disembark from the plane, you make a hard right towards the long descending escalator and hop on the tram. Always head to the front of the tram because the back is overloaded with passengers who don't want to walk further to the front. More importantly, once you get off the tram it's closer to the luggage carousels. You descend again onto another escalator down to the carousels and make a right into the long snaking taxi line. It was the first time I've ever seen rain in Vegas and the porous tarp did little to protect us from the rain while waiting for a taxi. I'm guessing that its real purpose is to shield arriving passengers in the taxi line from the scoring sun and not the rare rainfall. From the moment you enter Terminal D and get to the taxi line, you pass slot machines and loud blaring signs of Vegas entertainment advertisements. This is how the typical Vegas weekend starts with the customary arrival at 10pm PST.
After checking in at my new favorite Vegas hotel -- the Four Seasons -- we headed to Mandalay Bay to eat. Asians flood Vegas and are a great clientèle to Vegas. In every hotel is a noodle bar or Chinese restaurant and we found one in the Mandalay Bay casino. My favorite one is in the Bellagio. We scarfed down our food and headed to 3 card poker, the latest table game to my liking. That first round at 3 card poker was indicative of my gambling all weekend: toggling. I was down then back to even. I was up and then came down back to even. I couldn't make a strong move for 36 hours at the tables. By 1am I hit the wall hard and just went to sleep because I knew Saturday was going to be a long day. I woke up at 6am with thoughts of sneaking downstairs to gamble before the fellas woke up. I decided to just stay in bed and try to get some more sleep because we were going to be up late that night. By 8am, I hear Darko walk in and tell us he made $2K quickly at craps. That got me up pretty quickly and we headed for the breakfast buffet.
We gambled a good amount and I just toggled. At one of the tables, the dealer told us to be on the look out for Chuck: Charles Barkley. He had dealt several times to Chuck and said he's one of the nicest gentlemen and one of the greatest tippers. The night before, Chuck lost about $300k and his favorite game is the dice. I completely understand why. This same dealer told us of how Shaq doesn't like to gamble and that Keyshawn is the worst. We didn't see Chuck at all but apparently he was staying in the same hotel.
We tried out the Four Seasons pool which is adjacent to the Mandalay Bay pools. They provide the best service but the pool is nothing great. The pool staff spritzed us with Evian water -- sounds gay and pretentious. It felt like a beach club because it was really full service poolside. I headed back after only 30 mins in the sun to check out the other casinos.
For the afternoon, we gambled a good amount and watched the college football games. I bet only on the Michigan State/Notre Dame game which had the easiest line of the year. It was easy money. That was probably the easiest money I'll make this year. I closed out the afternoon with a massage in the Four Seasons Spa where I got a great rub down.
Well, for the evening......
