Tonight I had dinner at the Red Cat in my hood with good ol' JoJo and Helsinki. They put some good sense into me and a new perspective on life and work. Today was pretty wild and unique because of the photo shoot. I've been interviewed before for another magazine a few years back and for my 30 minutes of opining, I only got a couple lines inserted into the article.
This time around it's a featured article and a cover shot. Today was the photo shoot and as Helsinki put it, not many people get a chance at being on the cover of any magazine. It really didn't become apparent to me until she said it and now I realize it's pretty awesome. Thats what happens when I get to busy: I don't smell the roses. The day was pretty cool and JoJo understood because she's been to many photo shoots: the most recent being with Paris Hilton. First of all, it's one thing to have an assistant or admin, but to have a handler is a bit different. The person my company sent was extremely organized and very nice. He made sure everything was set and essentially catered to all my needs, which is something I'm not used to. I remember when I got my schedule, it was very detailed down to the minute: Show up here, makeup there, prep here, etc. I replied back to my PR team if I should greet the photographer, and they said don't worry because they were sending out a handler for it.
I showed up early because I was tired of checking emails. I figured it was going to be the same deal as the head shots I had taken a month ago. It ended up being different because there's a lot more poses, different scenery and many more pictures taken. My cheeks started to cramp up and the photographer asked me at one point to just stop smiling because I was overdoing it. He told me to relax, close my eyes and start my expression over. He was a great photographer: extremely nice and kept me comfortable throughout the session. If girlfriends were like the photographer, life would be very different. J/K!
I wore a suit most of the time, but they also took pictures without the jacket to switch things up. I was instructed to stand on the X, relax my body, stand up straight, gesture, sit down, cross my legs and always stare into the camera. The session was conducted in an area where my coworkers traffic, and to ridicule me I heard the words "GQ" and "blue steel" shouted at me to make me laugh. Speaking of which, the best scene in Zoolander is the walk off.
"Do it Hansel!"
