What a long way to Maui from NYC. Yesterday AM, I get a call from Jeff who's the best man at the wedding I'm attending tomorrow. He's freaking out saying they cancelled all flights out of LGA, and the ticket counter told everyone that they should just cancel their vacation plans because no one was going to get a flight out of NYC for another 3 days due to the backlog of previously cancelled travelers. I was about to leave the apt and he warned me to call American Air to check on the flight status and to consider alternate routes just in case. I called along the way to JFK and it was only a 30 min delay. Upon arriving, I hurried up to the ticket counter which was curiously sparse. It was still a 30 minute delay. I headed over the gate and it was still a 30 minute delay. Well, I am fortunate because we did end up leaving JFK an hour later than expected but I still was able to make the layover at LAX, and thankfully my bags made the transition. Unfortunately for the best man, he managed to get a later plane to LAX but had to spend it overnight in LA LA Land. He'll make the wedding and should be arriving mid-afternoon. I hope the rest of the East Coast contingents make it to Maui on time. We'll find out tomorrow.
After a loooooooong day of traveling yesterday -- two 5-hour flights -- I managed to settle in and collapse on the bed. I'm staying at a condo and I didn't realize I'm on a golf course and overlooking the blue pacific ocean. What a way to wake up, which btw happened at 5am. I took it ez this AM and took a nice long stroll along the beach in Lahaina. Well, off to the surf lesson. Hang Ten!
