The NY Times has an interesting article about Asian American's trying to get to Hollywood -- Stuck in Asia, Dreaming of Hollywood -- but it's a long road trip via Asia first. In an earlier blog entry, I wrote about running up and down Manhattan to auditions during my senior year in high school with my acting buddy, Konman. I think sitting in the waiting room of an audition is worse than a regular job interview. You're sitting among people who look like you because it's a casting call, and the conversation is only about one thing: what have you done lately? The acting world has the greatest disparity of wealth: it's about the few rich and tons of poor starving actors. Konman used to tell me I should try it out because since there were so few Asian men at the time, that I'd have a better shot than him: redhead in his twenties. He used to tell me stories of his other Asian buddies who were making a steady living because they were picking up so many bit parts. Thankfully I didn't seriously consider his suggestion.

DailyDumpling.com had a similar article about Korean American actors back in November.
