Engaged

I'm not but an old friend of mine just got engaged. It's one of the greatest moments and memories for anyone. I first met M when I arrived in NYC in 2000. She and I went through some fun times and some rough times, and our friendship has endured. I haven't seen her in a few years since she left for the west coast but we keep in touch a couple times a year. We never dated but we certainly had our flirtatious and interesting moments. As I look back, I know she and I weren't right for each other but what I loved about her was her take no prisoners approach. Over dinner tonight, I was admonished for my dating history and encouraged to pursue nice females. He said, you gotta stay away from the edgy ones, and I responded, some people like vanilla and I like chocolate. Unfortunately, I've been burned by my love of chocolate and the record isn't pretty. Perhaps I should try something else, like vanilla or strawberry shortcake. I would describe M as Cherry Garcia (of Ben & Jerry flavor ice cream) -- she seemed simple but was full of flavor. I've met a good number of females in NYC and many are very nice, but it's always been the Chunky Monkeys and the Cherry Garcia's that I've always fancied -- I like boldness and flavor. Inherent with ladies like that can be unseen trouble. Perhaps I go safe? Can a Tiger changes his stripes?

So I'm very happy for M and her fiance. I envy them because I wish I had someone I could love. They'll have a great life even if they never work again because her family is listed in the Forbes 400 of richest families in the "world." When your family friends with Bill Gates, you're usually flying private jets and not first class.
