Il Mulino Marvelous

Tonight I felt like one of the Goodfellas. Remember the Martin Scorsese film with Ray Liotta, where he played the simple Henry Hill. Soon as I sat down with the fellas (Darko and Hummer) at Il Mulino, I felt like I was in that Copacabana scene where Ray walks into the restaurant from the kitchen. Y'know, Scorsese's famous one-take steadicam technique of following a character through a sequence of events without ever cutting the camera. Soon as we sat down, appetizers just came pouring onto our table without even having ordered a thing. The service was impeccable: constant attention without being annoying. We devoured the anti-pasta and bread like it was our last meal. I paced myself, but the fellas were a bit aggressive and front loaded their stomach with the apps. I ordered the mushroom ravioli special which had a sauce that defeated my workout from this morning at the gym. It was the best ravioli since Julinetta's ravioli in Italy, which btw is the greatest ravioli I've ever had. That's for another story. Of course I finished or washed down my high carb meal with grappa. Zagat's says Il Mulino is "still the gold standard for old-school Italian dining."
