Late Saturday evening I finished off the holiday party circuit at a private function at some rented out space on Gansevoort St. I thought it was at some unnamed lounge or club that wasn't in the email and all I had was an address. As I walked down Gansevoort St, I had no idea where this place was because there were no numbers on the doors or on the buildings. Towards the empty part of the strip was a short guy standing outside with a clipboard. No line, no ropes to indicate there was anything going on at all other then a doorman. I asked him if this was the correct address and he asked me for my name. After a quick check, he opened the door and there was a party filled with one of the most diverse crowds I've seen in a long time -- about 600 people consisting of white, black, brown and Asian. I was surprised that there was no cover, and furthermore, it was open bar with hard liquor, beer and wine. The music was fly and there were people grooving everywhere. I just didn't know who the guy was that paid for a party for 600 people, rented out a venue on Gansevoort St and also provided the DJ. Unfortunately, we were all booted out because the cops showed up and shut the party down because it exceeded capacity. I thank the organizer for the music and free water which is the only thing I drink now a days.
