Elton John once sang, “Blue eyes, baby’s got blue eyes.” Unfortunately, I took the redeye back from San Francisco and I look bloodshot. It didn’t help prior to boarding the plane I had 3 pinot noirs at the House of Prime Rib. I felt like I was in the middle of the Sahara during the first 30 mins of our flight. Well, in between dinner and the redeye, I finally saw future hall of famer with an asterisk, Mr. BBB – Barry “Balco” Bonds. We scalped tickets which ended up providing us great seats in the lower section along the 3rd baseline. A few observations other than Balco Bonds getting a walk and single during the two at bats we were present for:
- AT&T park is unbelievably beautiful – the sixth baseball park I’ve seen
- SF is diverse when the peanut guy is this gray-haired Chinese guy with perfect English
- The word “hustle” is not in Balco Bonds dictionary
- SF fans are delusional if they don’t think Balco Bonds hasn’t taken steroids. His head is bigger than the catcher’s mask.
- SF is freezing at night in August
I’ve been to SF many times this past year and I can’t find myself living there. It’s a beautiful area but the ultra-liberalism makes John Kerry look like a centrist. The people are too laid back for me (and flakey) and I honestly like the faster tempo of NYC.
So this was my first flight since the failed terrorist attempt in Britain. A small sign of the times; the hotel I stayed at responded to the current airline restrictions and provided free toiletries at check-in for all guests.
After taking the redeye back, I took a quick 2 hr nap and then hopped on the Acela to Philly. I’m writing this entry from Malvern, PA which is one of the prettiest towns in the Philly suburbs. It’s so peaceful out here with their tree farms and horse stables. As I get older, I wonder how long I’ll be in NYC and if I would raise my kids in the city or outside of it. When I was walking across the recently mowed grass of Malvern Prep, the grass smell reminded me of high school and playing sports after school every day. I really enjoyed my youth and I would want my own kids to have a similar if not greater experience. Well, I don’t have kids, not that I know of so I don’t need to make any kind of changes in the near future.
