Minivan

The weekend has come to end and I'm trying get myself refocused on work. Even though I'm on the road all week in the bay area, at least staying at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay makes it easier. To bad I can't play golf because -- meetings after meetings -- the golf course kind of reminds me of Pebble Beach. The weekend started with an all-nighter and in between were many friends.

I left LA in the late afternoon to get to San Francisco around dusk. I've been here many times the past year and it's a beautiful city. Riding from Oakland to SF across the Bay Bridge provided amazing views of the city landscape. Could I live here? Nahhhhh. After getting off the plane, I headed to dinner to meet up with a couple I've known since my first year in NYC. They moved west a few years ago to start a family. Tonight was the first time I met their two infant kids. After playing with them for a bit, we headed out to catch up on old times. Last night I noted how people have gone off in different directions and it's a function of time. Well, tonight was another reminder of how we're all growing up so quickly and how it can happen in a matter of a couple of years. When they were in NYC, we partied everywhere. Wherever I went, they were there also. They've witnessed most of my dating life in NYC and they reminded me tonight of how amusing it's been for them. Fast forward a couple years and today they have 2 kids and a minivan. Amazing! It was just a couple years ago we were getting drunk on martinis at Industry for their farewell to NYC. That minivan epitomizes the present. They've grown up and have started a bigger chapter in their lives. Sure their lives are filled with Baby Einstein DVDs and crying kids, but they're moving forward with a big bang, or should I say 2 big bangs. Their exhortation to me was to not envy and to keep having fun because that's what they remember most about me. Well, I guess I've got no other option. Fun it shall be!
