I started off New Year's Eve by hopping on an Amtrak to get to Philly for the Eagles game. Susan, an old friend from Philly, invited me to join her, her brother and sis-in-law for the Eagles/Falcons game. Coincidentally, I celebrated New Year's eve with her last year at her house in LA. Both times were unplanned and happened last minute. Whenever I enter Philly, I know I'm home. Strolling through the parking lot, I realized I was with my people, though I'm not necessarily of the same ilk; drunk, blue collar, trashy. lol
We sat up in the upper deck and it was a great view of the stadium. Lincoln Financial Field has to be one of the best football stadiums in the country. To my surprise, a young lady by the name of Song-Hee Hahn of Bryn Mawr sang the National Anthem at the game -- a winner of a Philadelphia Eagles singing contest. She was outstanding and I took great pride in hearing a Seoul sister belt out the anthem in front of a predominantly white crowd. As a side note, she was very attractive in addition to having great pipes.
So here we were in a crowd of union workers who were not short on commentary with their harsh philly accents. Thankfully I heard no racial slurs thrown our way. The only foul language we heard were the chants of "Dallas sucks!" as the stadium roared after seeing the final score of the Detroit/Dallas game (Detroit beat the Cowgirls). Soon as the game was over, I ran back to the Amtrak station to hop on a train right back to NYC. I ran home, showered up and headed to a friend's apartment for a New Year's party on the Upper West Side.
I used to do the big New Year's eve celebration but it's become increasingly painful to go to them. They're usually expensive and filled with a lot of drunk people. Maybe I'm getting old. Anyway, Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
