Last night was one of the greatest nights of my life. I am a new uncle and it was an awesome feeling to be in the delivery room 30 minutes after the actual event. Up until last night, I knew I was going to be a first time uncle but it wasn't real to me, even though I had dinner with my sister and her hubby this past week and she was big as frosty the snowman. Then boom, it all happens quickly -- 18 minutes of active labor -- and you enter into the delivery room with family and then tears of happiness flow. Usually people are crying for the hard things but in a rare moment for me -- I don't cry in general -- tears began to form as I gazed over the most beautiful child. It's an unbelievable experience that I could not comprehend until that moment, and it's not even my own child. I want to thank my sister and niece for being accommodating because she delivered after work and before my holiday party. Even more convenient was the fact that the hospital was only 8 blocks away from where my company held the holiday party. Afterwards, I left and headed to the holiday party to celebrate with my date from last year, AirSuz.
This is the 2nd year in a row that I brought AirSuz. When in doubt, or when without a date, call AirSuz to rescue you from a dateless night. She is practically my sister, with no blood or marital ties. After the party, I asked AirSuz, what are the chances that she would be my date for a 3rd year in a row, and she said 20% because I'd be married by then. HA! I'd say 20% is correct but for the wrong reason because there is no chance in hell that I'll be married, but dating by then, perhaps. Currently my dating life can be characterized as non-existent.
Anyway, as usual I had a blast. I came to the holiday party super happy and I told all my cohorts of why I was in such a fantastic mood. I know there are many folks that dread their annual holiday party, but I particularly enjoy mine because they throw a great party and more importantly, I like my work and my coworkers. So for one evening, I brushed aside the clouds that lurked over my head the past couple weeks and "partied like it was 1999" (Prince). The unknown DJ was pretty good this year but I did like DJ AM from last year slightly more because of his aggressive style. I said hi to everyone, got a bite to eat and loaded up quickly on my old friend, Grey Goose Tonic, and headed to the dance floor to groove like MJ and Kanye. It's not a vice, but I do enjoy dancing mucho.
