Last Friday I skipped out on work and drove (courtesy of ZipCar) north of the Bronx to Connecticut. I visited a friend's house before heading to Mohegan Sun. She and her hubby have this magnificent home on a hill that was just cavernous. She had a second and third floor of bedrooms. Everywhere I turned was a bedroom, and her living room could've been a 3BR apt in NYC. The backyard landscape was customized after an english garden with a fountain in the back. It's when I see this that I think to myself, maybe leaving or living outside of NYC isn't a bad idea after all. I'm so used to the cramped quarters of NYC living but when you see how much space one can have, and all the things you can do with a house, I salivate at the possibilities. Interestingly, I own a house in NJ which I rent out to a nice family. I forget this fact except when the rent check arrives. Living in NYC is so convenient but there are tradeoffs. Living in the burbs with the crickets and watching the Home & Garden channel for great ideas is not a bad option, but I guess until I'm ready to settle down again, NYC living is for me.
So a bunch of us went to Mohegan Sun. I was thoroughly impressed by the casino and the hotel. The most interesting part of the trip was the deep tissue massage I got at the hotel. I had never had that type of massage and I'm not sure if I want it again. My masseuse was very athletic looking so I knew I would be in for a good rub down. Little did I know that deep tissue means rubbing your organs. I took the pain because I'm Korean, and I grew up thinking that pain meant good. She found a bruise on my calf and I almost yelled a few times because I was trying to take the massage. Afterwards I felt like I had gone through a boxing workout. Next time I'm doing swedish or Shiatsu. Next time happens to be tonight at the Peninsula Hotel.
