Keep on running

Last night I was out late doing the holiday party circuit. It started early at a 4pm house party and ended with a private party on Gansevoort Street. I finally got to bed by 3:30am but I was up at 8am on Sunday. I know lots of people get depressed around the holidays and for many New Yorkers it's driven by loneliness. Back in September, I met a girl who was 2 months new to NYC and she shared with me a warning from her friend. She was encouraged to get a boyfriend before winter hibernation begins because it gets real lonely in NYC if you're without someone. I don't agree. Everyone I know wants to be in a relationship and it's understandable. However, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy life if you're not in a relationship. What I look forward to are a lot of great things. Sure I have lofty goals for myself but I don't think setting pie in the sky goals are what makes life so great. I think it's about what happens in a day that makes life so great. The easiest thing to do in life is to let the mundane become a daily occurrence. I guess being busy could be considered masking something I'm hiding, perhaps loneliness or boredom. As Borat famously says..... NOT! I've been highly active lately, but it's been productive because I'm tasting so much more and that's what makes NYC so great -- it gives you many more means to satisfy the day. I focus on the daily knowing that it's transforming me in the long run and that I'm a step closer to my goals. So what I'm trying to say is that I'm enjoying the journey. Gotta keep running and pushing.
