36 Hours in Philly

The NY Times had a nice write up today about 36 hours in Philly which is more than my usual visits to Philly.

Last night I got lost driving around my hometown. I drove down wet Kelly Drive and it instantly brought back a fond memory of Cal and I late at night cruising in her old Acura. Ahhh, what memories from College. As I exited Kelly Drive (named after Grace Kelly who is from Philly), I took a wrong turn and realized quickly that I was in the wrong neighborhood. If you ever see signs for Temple University and you're not familiar with Philly, turn around quickly and hit the gas. In my opinion, the most dangerous part of Philly is North Philly where your hubcaps can be stolen while you're at a stop sign. The second worst place is Camden which is across the river in New Jersey. The third would be the U Penn area which is known as West Philly. If you haven't gotten mugged then you're in the minority. As a 4 year old I lived in West Philly and got beat up badly by a bunch of youngsters. So around 11:30pm I drove over to Wharton St where the famed Pat's and Gino's reside, and to my chagrin, both cheese steak houses were closed. I couldn't believe it. As I traversed the city, I was reminded of how much Philly has changed in the six years I've been in NYC. It's a great town that just needs to be searched for the fine gems, and it's quite a treasure once you start finding them.
