Gamble Gamble Gamble

I can't believe I'm going back to Vegas this weekend. Those who know me including my coworkers know of my one too many trips to Vegas this year -- 7 to be exact. I have contributed a large sum to the Las Vegas economy this past year, but I've certainly had my fun over the course of 7 trips. This was originally a preplanned trip for Darko's (AKA Row Boat) 32nd birthday. I'm going to LA later this week for work, so Vegas ends up being a convenient layover for me from LA. Thankfully we're heading to the Wynn, my favorite hotel on the strip. Other than the obvious amenities, they do have the best looking cocktail waitresses. It's a tough weekend trip from NYC to Vegas, but I barely sleep there anyway. This is generally what happens on these quick Vegas trips.

I leave work around 3pm and dash to JFK for jetBlue or the alternative airline. jetBlue is great because of the TVs. One of my buds actually gave up first class tix once for jetBlue's TVs. After I arrive it's a mad dash for the strip. The best feeling is when I make the turn towards the strip and I see the lights and my excitement begins to build. The worst thing you can do in Vegas is wait for a friend or wait for anything because idle time means money lost. Oh the countless times I've waited to meet a friend and within a span of 15 mins I'm down hundreds. I'm better served by going to the bar and drinking because that would be considered saving money. So my normal weekend runs from late Friday night until the Sunday redeye. I hate those Mondays because I'm usually a waste of space. In between flights is a lot of gambling, some more gambling, steaks, some clubs and ....... some depravity. By the time Sunday comes around, I'm exhausted and running on fumes. I always say to myself, I'm so done with Vegas when I'm boarding the plane back to NYC but I always come back the next month.

Here are a few happenings or observations about Vegas:

  • Vegas is good for 48 hours and no more
  • Taxi drivers are pimps b/c almost everyone offers a girl to my hotel rooom in 20 minutes or less
  • Taxis are more expensive than NYC cabs and they expect way more tip than NYC taxi drivers
  • Take a limo when you can
  • Fremont St and downtown Vegas isn't that great so save yourself the cab fare and stay on the strip
  • Good karma - tip after you've won
Bad karma - being interrupted during a hot streak by a big boobed cocktail waitress
  • There are many ways to lose $1000 in 30 minutes
  • Don't believe the little voice in your head that says, "I can make it all back"
  • Believe the voice that says "walk away"
  • Best law in NYC is no smoking in bars -- you can get lung cancer in Vegas b/c there's so much second hand smoke here in the casinos. You come to appreciate fresh air when you've suffocated from smoking for a whole weekend.
  • There's too many fake boobs, bachelorette parties, asian dealers and middle america
  • Vegas has some pretty good restaurants

Casino/Hotel rankings of places I've stayed the past couple of years:

  • Wynn
  • Bellagio
  • Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas
  • Venetian
  • Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas
  • Caesars
  • Mirage
  • MGM Grand
  • Rio
  • Luxor
  • Monte Carlo
  • Harrahs
